08.31.06 3:14 pm -Doug Powell Subject: EX33 SHOWS - WOOLACOMBE BAY A gig in a holiday camp in Devon in the height of summer! You got to be kidding, not really our thing? But the money was good and the sun was out and the promoter was very persuasive. Thanks Mr Boon.
Powell was the only one available for the show. Stocks had others things more pressing on.
Joining him on the bill was Chris Millington. This would have been the first time Doug & Chris had played a show together, but their musical swords had crossed on numerous occasions.
We love the work of Chris and so do the punters. Cleverly crafted honest English folk tunes. The punters did love it. A captive crowd not usually used to original acoustic music - "sorry folks.... no David Grey covers today."
Powell did a 30 min set consisting of the S&P standards, a couple of rarely heard tunes from Powell's past and some favourite Pete Bruntnell numbers.
Chris played another 30 mins Doug did another 30 mins and so on and so on.
There was talk of a duet but Powell was not up to speed with the old English folk scene. May be another time.
Great day had by all. Sold a few CD's, made some new friends and played a gig with one of best views in the world - watching a swell come in from the Atlantic and go from 1ft to head height before the sun went down. Powell got a surf in after the show too. Happy days.
Check out the pics on the photo page.

-Doug Powell Subject: Wanted 02.10.06 8:22 am After a week spent playing shows around this beautiful country of ours. Testing out new music avenues putting down the acoustics on some songs and Mike playing slide on his 1950's electro acoustic ‘Record’ and Doug on his 1980's smashed to f**ck Ibanez Road Star II bass with classic skater decals and the first appearance of the classic Roland Doctor Rhythm drum machine. The boys have decided to change a few things for the better.
The duo have decided to recruit some more musicians!
They require a drummer with both kit and other percussion skills to play a stripped down kit and a keyboard player with a passion for Fender Rhodes or Hammond.
To join this well established duo for touring and to complete recording sessions for a forth-coming album.
As quoted in The North Devon Journal (and pictured on the same pager as the Arctic Monkeys!) “Successful candidates must be dedicated, stylish and amazingly creative.”
If you think you might fit the bill and would like to arrange a reahearsal session with the boys. Contact them via the mailing list at the top of this page.
No Time wasters, New Romantics or Ernie.

-Doug Powell Subject: Thanks to the TFF open mikers 11.08.05 1:58 pm Big thanks to all at the 3 Fat Fish, Exeter last night 07/110/05. Especially to Hum and Tigga for putting us on the stage at that all important 21.45 slot that all open mikers dream of. Great sound and monitors too! Well recommended to any budding starlets who want to get gigging.
We have been invited back to play a full set on - Nov 23rd. The venue tells me that we will up against some serious local talent. Sounds like this North South show down is not one to be missed. Will post more detail as I get it.
If you where one of the lucky ones to receive a S&P cd last night. Then we would like to hear and read what you think. Feel free to post comments. Thanks again. Mike & Doug.
